Gas,Flame and Smoke Detectors Head for Azerbaijan Oil Platform
Apr 22 2009
Groveley Detection (UK) has completed its largest-ever contract - a £750,000 order to supply fire and gas detection equipment for the Chirag oil platform operated by BP in Azerbaijan.
The equipment includes line-of-sight gas detectors and high sensitivity smoke detectors, together with other gas, flame and smoke detectors and call points, sounders and beacons.
AMEC, the engineering contractor for the project, chose Groveley for its technical expertise and experience in integrating its equipment with systems from other companies.
The order was placed by AMEC, which is managing the platform’s refit on behalf of the Azerbaijan International Operating Company (AIOC) consortium, of which BP Caspian is a member.
The ten-year-old Chirag platform in the Caspian Sea was originally designed to be only a test platform but proved to be so successful that it is now undergoing an extensive upgrade and refit to develop its facilities and prolong its working life.
Because of the complexity of the integration on this very large project and the location of the end site, Groveley organised the sending of one of each item to the system integrator at the earliest opportunity to ensure complete system compatibility. That ensured site work was undertaken with a minimum of disruption.
