Epsilon 3 XL - Analysis of Sulphur and Chlorine in Waste Oil

Oct 25 2012

Waste oil with high chlorine concentrations is considered to be hazardous and must be treated differently from other waste oils.

High concentrations of sulphur in waste oil make analysis of chlorine by XRF difficult, because of broadening of the sulphur lines. The commonly used rhodium X-ray tubes cause line-overlap of rhodium on chlorine. PANalytical’s (Netherlands) Epsilon 3 XL, a benchtop energy dispersive X-ray fluorescence (EDXRF) spectrometer, equipped with a silver anode

X-ray tube, prevents this line overlap. Also the high-resolution SDD detector improves separation of sulphur and chlorine peaks.

The combination of the silver anode X-ray tube, excellent detector resolution, high sensitivity and powerful software of the Epsilon 3 XL, make it capable of performing accurate and precise analysis of varying concentrations of sulphur and chlorine in waste oils.
