Analysing Sulphur Species and Permanent Gases at ppb Level

Aug 14 2015

Global Analyser Solutions (The Netherlands) specialise in turnkey products for the Petroleum, Petrochemical, Natural gas and Energy markets and offer solutions for the trace analysis of sulphur components.

Analysis of sulphur components at ppb levels can be very demanding as this group of components easily absorbs many other materials.  The GAS Low Sulphur Analyser is used for the analysis of individual sulphur species like H2S, COS, Mercaptanes, Thiols, Thiophenes and others in several petrochemical matrices.

Ronald Verbeek, Business Development Manager at GAS explains “The sample path is optimised for highly polar components, like sulphur species, by using Flame Photometric Detectors (FPD) when low ppm level detection is required and for sub-ppm/ppb levels in complex matrices Pulsed Flame Photometric Detectors (PFPD) are recommended as PFPD offers enhanced sensitivity and selectivity.”

Both FPD and PFPD solutions are available to meet a broad range of applications and budgets.   For example, the PFPD model meets the requirements of ASTM D6228, D5303, UOP791 and ISO 19739 standards.

The High Purity Analyser (HPA) measures permanent gases and other volatile species in various petrochemical streams at low ppb levels using a GC equipped with a Pulsed Discharge Detector. GAS offers PED (Plasma Emission Detector) as standard for the selective detection of permanent gases at ppb level. Beside helium, argon can also be used as carrier gas, ideal when impurities in Argon have to be analysed.

Both analysers are available as dedicated stand alone instruments, but can also be combined with other petrochemical instruments like a Refinery Gas Analyser or LPG analyser when an application demands it!
