Sulphur analysis
Prevent Corrosion Damage Caused by the Presence of Low Chlorine in Crude Oils
Dec 12 2014
Energy Dispersive X-ray Fluorescence (EDXRF ) offers simple, rapid, routine quality control analysis for sulphur in a range of petroleum products. Oxford Instruments’ (UK) X-Supreme8000 EDXRF instrument now offers the ability to determine the presence of low chlorine in crude oil offering the same benefits as its sulphur analysis: no sample measurements, non-destructive analysis and results in five seconds.
Application optimised calibrations simultaneously measuring sulphur and chlorine from low mg/kg to high % levels allow users to demonstrate conformance of product specifications and subsequent optimisation of the refining process. Don’t let chlorine become corrosive to profits.
Supplementary to the measurement of chlorine, low concentrations of sulphur (mg/kg) are covered by the test method - “Determination of low concentration of sulphur in automotive fuels - Energy-dispersive X-ray fluorescence spectrometric method”. The X-Supreme8000 conforms to this method allowing the routine measurement of sulphur at the 10mg/kg level which can easily be performed by production staff.
