    Dependable and accurate density and viscosity measurement in a single test run, using only 5 mL of sample

    PAC LP’s OptiMVD, is a unique, compact, benchtop analyser that rapidly measures viscosity and density without compromising on accuracy.

    The OptiMVD complies with ASTM D7945, a method based on measuring the dynamic viscosity of a liquid using PAC’s patented, tried and tested technology. The OptiMVD features a capillary tube enclosed horizontally in a thermal block, maintained at a constant temperature by thermoelectric coolers. The test specimen is conveyed across the capillary tube by a constant, regulated pressure of compressed air. The test sample flows past a series of optical detectors, and the transit time is measured. Dynamic viscosity is converted to kinematic viscosity calculated by the density of the liquid, which is measured by the ASTM D7777-compliant internal digital density meter. The OptiMVD delivers exceptionally accurate determination of viscosity and density in petroleum products between +15°C and +100°C through very tight temperature control.

    Each of the three customisable model configurations loads samples, performs viscosity and density measurement, and cleans the system automatically. All configurations measure samples with a viscosity range from 1 mm²/sec to 2,000 mm²/sec at 40°C. In a dual-module configuration, OptiMVD measures viscosity at two unique temperatures in a single test run in as little as 10 minutes, and reports Viscosity Index (VI) in addition to viscosity and density results using a sample from the same vial. Additionally, the dual configuration allows programming of up to 48 samples at a time.

    As well as being small, quick, and extremely precise, OptiMVD is also exceptionally user-friendly. Operating the device only needs the simple task of loading the sample into the heated sample injection port or heated carousels. The 13.3” colour touchscreen interface requires just a few simple interactions to program a test and start a run. Calibration and instrument updates are quick and easy, and data download is a rapid and simple process via the USB ports. With a real cycle time of as little as ten minutes, OptiMVD is the fastest viscometer/densitometer available on the market, with precision that is unsurpassed by other comparable instruments in its class.

    Every aspect of this instrument is engineered around the operator’s convenience and tasks. Thanks to its pioneering Smart Sample Order feature, OptiMVD works out the number of samples, the sample order, the testing temperatures, and any user-defined priority selections to determine the most efficient testing order. The integral intelligence of Smart Sample Order cuts testing time by as much as 50% for full carousel running programs of multiple temperatures.

    The is a fully self-contained OptiMVD requires no additional investment for external cooling or heating baths. It has low consumable requirements and energy consumption thereby supporting environmental sustainability efforts. When combined with the rapid cycle time and low cleaning solvent use, this provides a low total cost of ownership.
