Advanced flammable gas detection with the SMART3G-D2 sensor
Apr 01 2025
Detecting flammable gases is a crucial component of industrial safety strategies in the oil and gas industry. The Sensitron SMART 3G Series offers precise gas detection while meeting stringent standards and certifications such as ATEX, SIL, and IECEx, ensuring dependable performance for both safety and regulatory compliance.
Gases like methane, propane, hydrogen, and gasoline present significant hazards to human health, facility integrity, and the surrounding environment. To prevent accidents, fires, and explosions, a robust gas detection system is essential.
Sensitron’s Smart 3G can be customised with the right type of sensor for your application.
Catalytic sensors work by using a heated element coated with a catalyst, which produces an electrical signal proportional to the gas concentration when exposed to flammable gases. Infrared sensors detect gas concentrations by emitting infrared light and measuring how much is absorbed by the target gas. Electrochemical sensors generate an electric current when gas molecules interact with electrodes, delivering accurate gas concentration readings. Photoionization detectors (PID sensors) use ultraviolet light to ionize volatile organic compounds (VOCs), producing a current proportional to their concentration in the air.
Engineered for demanding environments, the SMART3G-D2 enables non-intrusive calibration through Hall-effect switches, allowing for precise and convenient adjustments without opening the device or requiring area declassification.
Designed for use across a wide range of industrial settings, the SMART3G-D2 features a bright 4-digit display that provides real-time gas concentration readings, along with a high-intensity LED crown that indicates three status levels—ensuring visibility and effective detection even in low-light conditions.
