    Oil analysis

Analysis of nickel, vanadium and iron in crude and residual oil per ASTM D8252

The quality and grade of crude and residual oil depend on sulphur (S) content as well as the presence of nickel (Ni) and vanadium (V), and in some cases, iron (Fe). Determining the content of nickel and vanadium is imperative for processing purposes, contract agreements, as well as meeting NYMEX/CME specifications. Knowledge of metal content is especially important in the quality of bunker fuels. To meet the industry's needs, Applied Rigaku Technologies, Inc. offers the affordable NEX QC+ spectrometer specially designed for rapid elemental analysis of nickel, vanadium, iron, and sulfur in crude, residual oil, and marine fuels. Rigaku’s NEX QC+ benchtop energy dispersive X-ray fluorescence (EDXRF) analyser easily meets compliance for ASTM D8252 for vanadium and nickel in crude and residual oil, and ASTM D4294 for sulphur in petroleum and petroleum products.

The affordable NEX QC+ EDXRF analyser delivers rapid qualitative and quantitative determination of major and minor atomic elements. Non-destructively analyse sodium (Na) through uranium (U) in a wide variety of sample types. This easy-to-use, versatile, and portable EDXRF analyser is an ideal tool for monitoring the concentrations of both sulphur and heavy metals. The instrument features an intuitive and modern icon-driven touchscreen, guiding users through routine analysis operations. With an easy-to-learn software interface in a robust package, certify products ASTM D8252 and ASTM D4294 quicker and easier.

In addition, the multi-element analysis capabilities allow the NEX QC+ analyser to perform other petroleum-related applications. Analyse multiple elements (P, S, Ca, Zn, Mo, and Ba) in lubricating oils, or measure for lead (Pb) or manganese (Mn) in gasoline. Meet ASTM D6481, ASTM D5059, and ASTM D8252-19 all with one instrument.
