New, compact thermal camera for hot and hazardous working zones
Dec 05 2022
Teledyne FLIR recently launched the FLIR Cx5 pocket-portable thermal camera for condition monitoring in hazardous industrial locations. This device features a robust ATEX-compliant case, which camera operators to monitor electrical or mechanical assets in hot working environments safely.
Oil, gas and chemical plants must be protected from ignition sources, therefore only ATEX-approved, or similar regulations such as UKEX and IECEx electronic devices can be used in these harsh conditions. The 160 x 120-pixel camera is mounted within a robust enclosure to allow end-users to operate the device with confidence and comply to the relevant safety regulations.
Michael Deruytter, Teledyne FLIR’s Senior Director Product Manager commented, “In hazardous environments, it’s critical for surveyors to be able to detect problems fast, so they can react accordingly. The FLIR Cx5 is not only explosion-proof, but it’s also compact and very easy to use. This allows maintenance professionals to always have their camera at hand, find hidden issues quickly and reduce diagnostic time.”
Teledyne FLIR’s new camera includes rugged features to withstand the toughest possible conditions; its case has shock absorbers, while lens is protected by a Germanium window with an anti-reflective coating. Armoured glass protects the 3.5-inch colour touchscreen. The C x 5’s rugged lanyard point can be removed once in a safe environment for access to the data storage and charging port.
The Cx5 also includes a FLIR Lepton® thermal imaging sensor as well as FLIR’s patented MSX® (Multi-Spectral Dynamic Imaging) technology, which displays visible scene details onto thermal images. These cutting-edge features facilitate a crisp thermal image, allowing operators to locate previously hidden problems immediately.
The FLIR Cx5 is compatible with FLIR’s Ignite secure, cloud storage solution that enables operators to upload, edit, organise and share images directly. As all images and videos are in one location, sharing data with colleagues and creating reports for customers is quick and easy. FLIR Cx5 operators can also depend on FLIR’s Thermal Studio software to finetune images and generate professional reports.
