Contaminated Steam and Boiler Feed Water – No Problem
Aug 28 2013
In industry and in power plants monitoring of contaminated boiler feed water is of great importance. Especially in boiler steam and condensate systems. The three main reasons for online monitoring are: the prevention of corrosion, the prevention of scale and the economic operation of the boiler without carry over.
Corrosion reduces the metal thickness of tubes and shells. This leads to a lower pressure in the boiler that may result in a costly boiler replacement. Scale reduces the heat flow in the boiler. Consequently, there are higher temperatures required to heat the boiler. Hence, the cost of heating increases. The risk of corrosion and scale may cause a failure of the entire system. To avoid this, the TOC (Total Organic Carbon) determination by online analysers plays a crucial role for plant operators. Today it is usually standard to put an alarm at 0.1 or 0.2 mg / l concentration of carbon.
LAR`s QuickTOCcondensate determines the TOC fast and correctly in the lowest ppb ranges. Fast response times and the high temperature oxidation at 1,200°C optimally suit for monitoring of potential TOC contamination in steam and boiler feed water. The analysers' quick and easy calibration and validation offers to operators the assurance that their analysers are giving accurate results. The QuickTOCcondensate is ideal for the monitoring of boiler feed, condensate, ultra pure and cooling water according to international guidelines for industrial processes.
