Saving money with TOC analysis
Apr 18 2019
Total organic carbon (TOC) is a measurement parameter for the content of carbon in dissolved and undissolved organic substances in water and therefore an important indicator of water quality in a variety of municipal and industrial applications. In industry, water is used as a heating and cooling medium, operating fluid or for auxiliary means where any contamination causes high costs. Monitoring the TOC reliably detects organic pollution of process water which often indicates product leakages, leaking heat-exchangers or equipment failure. For optimised process control it is crucial to maintain product quality, safe operation and costs efficiency.
Depending on the amount of TOC and the type of water LAR offers a wide range of analysers with application specific technology. You can view some of this technology and discuss your TOC analysis requirements at PEFTEC, where LAR will be exhibiting on stand 6.
Waste water monitoring is realized through LAR’s QuickTOCultra and its high temperature combustion, which fully oxidises the complete sample incl. Particles. With special configuration it even handles high salt and fat contents with low maintenance efforts.
For purified process water monitoring LAR offers the QuickTOCpurity which has a unique loop injection system protecting the sample from ambient air and any contamination. Thus, it allows a special calibration and validation with test gas, combined with our high temperature combustion, resulting in a reliably TOC detection.
The QuickTOCtrace detects the TOC via UV oxidation and conductivity measurement and therefore is specially suited for the monitoring of ultra pure water. It is characterized by an extremely fast response time and based on it is design it easily integrated in existing processes.
