A Quantum Leap in Flow Computing

Until now, all flow computers were in a common category in terms of performance, handling, and interoperability. This has changed dramatically with the new Summit 8800 Digital Flow Computer with graphic display from Krohne (Germany).Building on a history of flow computers that goes back to 1983, Krohne Oil & Gas has now introduced a truly new generation. The improvements can be seen in 5 major areas: performance, handling, communications, versatility and security.

To improve the performance, Krohne has used modern processors with a fast ¼ second processing cycle and not just one shared processor, but one dedicated processor per I/O board. The internal operations are based on the time-tried Applications Builder Software. There is a removable 2 GB card to store data, with enough capacity for several years.

For ease of operation, navigation is scroll-and-click, with a large, easy to read colour display with multicolour traffic-light guidance and touch-screen operation.

Communication has been improved by including fully redundant Ethernet, wide-area network capability alongside any desired commonly used protocol. Krohne has introduced modularity for increased versatility, permitting the user to plug in I/O boards as needed for up to 8 streams, analysers or additional communications.

Security is a unique concept with an optional personalised electronic proximity key and multi-level access and authorisation levels. For the first time in a flow computer, KROHNE has separated fiscal from maintenance data, permitting remote maintenance withoutcompromises. The security system provides full audit trail with personalised I.D’s.

With the new Summit 8800, Krohne has created new meaning to flow computing by providing features that are totally in line with current developments in metering, data handling and system maintenance, all at an extremely competitive price. The Summit 8800 has no limitations on the type of metering it can be used with. The products measured cover the entire spectrum from oil, gas, wet gas, steam and water.
