Performance Verification of Flash Point Analysers According International Standards
Dec 11 2017
The PAC/Herzog OptiFlash is an excellent example of an automated instrument for determination of the flash point of petroleum products. It is a crucial test for several oil products each according a specific standard and test method. Well known standard methods include Pensky Martens Open Cup (ASTM D93) for fuels and bio diesel, Cleveland Open Cup (ASTM D92) for lubricants and bitumen, TAG (ASTM D56) and Abel (IP 170).
But these instruments can only work properly if the test performance is validated frequently. ELS, European Lab Services verifies analysers according to an ISO 17025 accreditation.
ELS checks every step thoroughly before the job is done. For flash point, the procedures are described by the specific method of flash point determination (e.g. ASTM D93). The procedure contains the calibration of the temperature sensor at four points; also the temperature reading will be verified. The procedures also describes a calibration and adjustment of the pressure sensor and verification of the heating time. Most procedures require a verification of the stirring rate as well. After the verification is completed, the system will be checked with a Certified Reference Material and a verification certificate according ISO 17025 will granted.
Every step of the process is checked and the analyser will be ready to use with the proper certification of accuracy, repeatability and of course traceability. ELS has more than 25 years of experience and a unique accreditation service, European Lab Services is the only company worldwide providing on-site verification of petroleum analysers with an ISO 17025 accreditation.
