Measurement and Testing
Online measurement technique for TOC, COD and TN for complex waters, with high particle density & up to 30% NaCl!
Dec 19 2012
LAR's ULTRA-Series for online measurement of TOC, COD and TN reliably determine organic contamination in the most difficult waters with course material contents. The series' innovative process control does not require any sample dilution and operates without catalysts and filtration. The patented sampling system FlowSampler works with raw sewage samples, including particles, corresponding to 98% of a grabbed sample. The sample is injected directly into the reactor via the injection system. Even when the water is dirty – the measurement is clean! The integrated patented oxidation method at 1,200°C, leads to a full oxidation of all organic substances of a raw waste water sample, including particles and the subsequent CO2 content is detected with a NDIR detector. The complete oxidation without the use of any chemicals is an advantage of LAR`s ULTRA high temperature method. This ensures a clean determination which is free of any disturbances with chloride. Moreover, salts are easier to handle. Due to the enormous expansion of the injected sample, the melted salts are blown out of the reactor and collected in a special retaining device. The innovative special high salt option easily handles contents of sodium chloride (NaCl) of up to 30%. This attains a reactor lifespan of over 2 years, whereby the weekly service is reduced to about 30 minutes. Furthermore, LAR's ULTRA-Series is also characterised by very low operational costs and high availability. Thus, clogging, faulty reactors and long downtimes are matters of the past.
The standard method for determining COD is based on the use of hazardous dichromate sulfuric acid. Moreover, the method only detects some ingredients, but not all organics. To ensure stronger oxidation, silver is used as a catalyst. Due to the chemical reaction, disturbances with chloride need to be masked with mercury, which is used as complexing agent. All the chemicals may pollute the waste water for a second time. On the contrary, the LAR ULTRA-Series provide clean and accurate solutions.
The QuickCODultra determines the real oxygen demand within 2 minutes and without any disturbances of chloride. The QuickTONultra is a special measuring system for the determination of total nitrogen (TNb) according to DIN 38409. The analyser is marked by response times within 1-2 minutes. This guarantees the determination of peaks throughout the day. In contrast to many other analysers, the QuickTOCultra handles well salt concentrations up to 300 g/l. The removable retaining device of the high temperature oven is an innovative solution for easy and quick removal of salt residues. The ULTRA-Series provides the possibility to combine TOC, COD, TNb and TP in one analyser.
The equipment of the LAR ULTRA-Series assures a quick response time and stands out with its very low maintenance and operational costs, as well as with its high availability of more than 98%. Additionally, the analysers use an intuitive new software with touch screen, exceeding our wish to deliver a comprehensive, easy to understand and user-friendly solution in online analysis. This new software offers the possibility to program individual user levels to ensure protection against unauthorised access. With the optional remote control, the analyser is directly connected to your network and accessable via PC.
These custom-tailored measurement systems can measure up to 6 sample streams and are ideally suited for the surveillance and optimisation of industrial processes, as well as for the use in industrial and communal waste water treatment plants.
