Cooling Water; Keep Cool Using Reliable Online TOC Analysis
Aug 05 2013
Industrial facilities use large volumes of cooling water from lakes, rivers or oceans to cool their plants in order to remove heat from a machine or system. These facilities are steam electric power plants, chemical manufacturers, petroleum refiners, and manufacturers of primary metals like iron, steel and aluminum.
Cooling methods can vary widely in their structure and composition of cooling water. It may be recycled through a recirculation system or used in a single pass once-through cooling (OTC) system. Open recirculating systems rely upon cooling towers to remove heat. In closed recirculating systems, heat removal is accomplished with negligible evaporative loss of cooling water. Furthermore, chemicals may be added, e.g. to prevent biological growth or stabilising the hardness. In that case, cooling water has to be monitored continuously to protect the environment and/or the cooling system itself. Even if there are no chemicals added, a heat conductor breakdown can also pollute the cooling water. For that reason, the need of reliable online monitoring is significant.
LAR AG (Germany) offers a wide range of applicable online TOC analysers which offer optimal solutions for every cooling water challenge. The LAR ultra-series, using the robotic injection system, fit best when there are chemicals added or any other solids present in water. LAR's TOC analysers, using the injection loop system, offer the optimal solution for clean cooling water applications without chemicals and solids. Alternatively, the continuous TOC analyser QuickTOCuv using the UV persulfate method suits also well.
In conclusion, the selection of a TOC analysers depends on the composition of cooling water. For every cooling water application LAR AG offers the optimal solution.
