Subsea Flow Meter Brochure Highlights Oil/Gas Flow Measurement

Engineers in search of a flow measurement solution designed for the high-pressure, space-constrained subsea oil and gas production environment will want to download a new brochure from McCrometer (USA) available in both English and Portuguese. The comprehensive brochure explains the advantages of the V-Cone Subsea Flow Meter, which operates at pressures of up to 15,000 psi and depths down to 5,000m.

TheV-Cone Subsea Flow Meter from McCrometer has been in operation from the North Sea to the Gulf of Mexico over several decades and is built to stand the test of time. McCrometer has been recognised by the oil and gas industry for its dedication to flow measurement excellence. An extensive reference list of customers and applications is available on request.

Pressure, space and weight constrained subsea and other oil and gas production environments require flow meters that will maintain accuracy under rugged operating conditions. Already cramped subsea installations are further complicated by the extensive straight pipe runs required by most flow meter measurement technologies in order to obtain accurate, repeatable measurement.

The advanced V-Cone Subsea Flow Meter is designed with built-in flow conditioning technology, which reduces straight pipe requirements and allows it to fit into tight spaces. The V-Cone Subsea Flow Meter features a smaller installed footprint in applications for modules and manifolds than any other subsea flow meter technology. Its accuracy, repeatability and reliable performance have been proven through extensive third party testing protocols, including API 22.2 and field testing during years of subsea applications.

With self-conditioning differential pressure (dP) technology, the V-Cone Subsea Flow Meter reduces the upstream/downstream straight pipe run required Venturi Tubes by up to 70 percent. It only requires 0-1 straight pipe diameters upstream and 0-3 diameters downstream. This reduction in pipe requirements also reduces weight and provides cost savings in materials and installation labour.

The V-Cone Subsea Flow Meter provides a stable flow profile for reliable measurement, with system accuracy of ±1.0 percent of actual flow. It is ideal for the measurement of liquid or gas and is designed for line sizes from 2 to 16 inches, frequently with a turndown ratio of flow ashigh as a 50:1 and operating from Re ranges as low as 1000 and above.

Featuring a rugged, no-moving-parts cone design, the V-Cone Subsea Flow Meter has no need for routine maintenance or re-calibration and is ideal for unattended, long-term reliable performance. Its contour-shaped cone directs flow towards the outside of the pipe wall, so the beta edge is not subject to wear and results in a long-life instrument with a low life-cycle cost.

The cone in the pipe forms very short vortices as the fluid flows past the cone. These short vortices create a low amplitude, high frequency signal for excellent signal stability. The clean signal enables a wide measurement range and quick response time for control purposes.

The pressure difference exhibited between the static line pressure and the low pressure created downstream of the cone is measured via two pressure sensing taps, one placed slightly upstream of the cone and the other located in the downstream face of the cone itself. The pressure difference is then incorporated into a derivation of the Bernoulli equation to determine the fluid flow rate.
