Flow Level Pressure
Ultrasonic Level Switch USG 20 Used for Unloading Fuel for Maritime Vessels
May 09 2017
Maritime vessels are usually fuelled with a mixture of marine fuel or heavy fuels obtained as a residue from petroleum distillation, and of diesel fuel. This fuel is classified as IFO 180, 380 and 580, with increasing numbers indicating higher viscosity. The fuel must be heated to a temperature of 50 °C to 60 °C so that it can be pumped; this is done by means of heating coils in the tanks and heated pipes. When tanker wagons containing this fuel are unloaded, many logistics companies relied on the established vibration fork technology for detecting and monitoring the level in the tanks. However, a disadvantage of this technology is the fact that the viscous fuel adheres to the vibration forks and that the equipment is frequently damaged during cleaning.
A globally active logistics company has now solved this problem once and forever by using the new USG 20 ultrasonic level switch from AFRISO. The new USG 20 level switch offers decisive benefits. Flush mounting and the non-stick properties of the high-performance plastic used for the process connection make vibration forks with adhering fuel a thing of the past. An extremely robust design and completely encapsulated electronics render USG 20 resistant to vibration and mechanical shock. The USG 21 ultrasonic level switch also allows for non-invasive measurements from the outside through plastic tanks or plastic pipe walls without requiring drilling holes or other types of mechanical intervention. The ultrasonic level switch USG 20 is also available with other process connections such as G1/2, G3/4, G1, Tri-Clamp, dairy fitting, VARIVENT, weld-in socket, etc. Compatible mechanical and electrical connections enable easy replacement of installed vibration level switches with vibration forks.
