Efficient and environmentally friendly oil in water testing with sub-ppm precision according to new ASTM D8193 method
Aug 01 2019
eralytics’ ERACHECK ECO is the only IR analyser available on the market which is completely compliant to the recently published ASTM standard D8193. ERACHECK ECO is capable of sub-ppm measurements of Total Petroleum Hydrocarbons (TPH) and Total Oil and Grease (TOG) in water, wastewater and soil samples using the highly economical and environmentally friendly CFC-free solvent Cyclohexane. Unlike customary IR methods, the new standard has no need for the CFC solvents banned or phased out by the Montreal protocol. ASTM D8193 combines the fundamental advantages of IR methods like a fast and highly precise measurement with an eco-friendly and low-cost solvent.
This new method enables the highest precision even for sub-ppm oil in water measurements (method detection limit MDL of 0.5 mg/L) and covers a total measuring range of 0.5 to 1000 mg/L for TOG as well as for TPH.
ASTM D8193 uses a direct IR transmission measurement of oils and greases in the extraction solvent. The method does not require any solvent evaporation like gravimetric or solventless IR methods and is, therefore, able to measure all fractions of the sample, including the light ends. With its easy and intuitive operation, ERACHECK ECO enables the straightforward creation of user calibrations and correlations, ensuring excellent correlation to other established oil in water methods. Furthermore, the fully automated measurement enables the use of the eralytics 10-position autosampler for even higher sample throughput.
ASTM D8193 is providing the industry with a new procedure for highly precise and eco-friendly monitoring of oil and grease in discharge and wastewater applications. With eralytics’ portable ERACHECK ECO measurements according to this advanced standard are made extremely easy, fast and highly reliable.
