Sampling systems for gas measurement in wastewater applications
Dec 05 2024
Water and wastewater organisations have long struggled with measuring gases and vapours in sewers due to corrosive gases, heat, water, and high humidity, which affect sensors like catalytic, electrochemical, and photo ionisation. Recent advances in PID technology still face challenges with humidity, leading to inaccurate readings.
As the need for gas sampling in sewer applications grows, especially to trace polluters, PID technology is ideal for measuring low VOC concentrations, but only when humidity and water vapour are controlled.
Several utilities have been on the forefront in attempting to find a solution, and CAC GAS, offers the GSCS (Gas Sample Conditioning System) to address these issues by managing liquid, humidity, dust, and dirt.
The GSCS is designed for extreme environments and can incorporate any sensor technology. It uses a powerful air aspirator to pull samples from up to 50 meters, filters and conditions them, and delivers them to sensors. Flow fail monitoring ensures system integrity, and on-board communication alerts personnel. The system can support multiple sensors or serve as a portable sampling system. It also includes an optional liquid sampling feature for real-time measurements.
With over 7 years of experience in water/wastewater applications, the GSCS is a proven solution for challenging monitoring environments.
