Smart On-line Fuel Oil Viscometer Installs in Minutes
Nov 13 2008
Ready for use on any size line straight out of the box, the new Viscojet VJ1 is a high-performance stand-alone device offering high resolution and accuracy with excellent repeatability. All instrument-specific data is stored on the sensor, giving complete flexibility of installation as well as facilitating adjustment and performance optimisation. The instrument can be connected directly to a PID
controller for real-time viscosity monitoring and control.
Typical applications include controlling the preheating of fuel oil to ensure that it has the correct viscosity at the burner, thereby significantly improving burner efficiency.
The standard Viscojet measures viscosities up to 10,000 cP at temperatures up to 150°C and pressures up to 50 bar (725 psi), although extended temperature and pressure range instruments are also available.
An integral thermometer provides simultaneous measurement of oil temperature, allowing the instant calculation of viscosity corrected to a reference temperature.
The orientation-independent sensor has a solid construction with no moving parts, seals or bearings, so routine maintenance is not required. The instrument is mounted directly on the line with no offtake or bypass necessary. Unaffected by vibration, gas breakout or flow conditions, the Viscojet is factory-calibrated to international standards traceable to NIST, eliminating the need for field calibration. The device is shipped ready for immediate use, enabling viscosity measurement to begin immediately following electrical hook-up.
Operating on any supply voltage between 12 and 24 volts DC, the Viscojet provides a 4-20mA analog viscosity signal and a more comprehensive RS485 serial data link. The associated PC-based ViscoLink software (supplied with the instrument) has a user-friendly interface showing live viscosity, current temperature and temperature-corrected
viscosity. There is also the facility to export data to Microsoft® Excel⢠for logging and analysis.
Configuring the system for optimum performance is quick and easy using ViscoLink. Moreover, the user has instant access to a complete set of diagnostic parameters for instrument validation purposes, thereby minimizing the time, effort and cost involved in any regulatory assessment of calibration and condition.
Installed in minutes, the Viscojet offers an immediate, reliable and durable solution to the challenges of real-time on-line viscosity measurement in the harsh conditions often encountered in the petrochemical industry.
