IECEx Certification Gives Worldwide Coverage for New Range of Intrinsically Safe Viscometers
Sep 28 2009
Viscosity specialist Hydramotion (UK) is pleased to announce that it has now gained IECEx international certification for its newlyextended range of intrinsically safe viscosity measurement instrumentation.
For many years the intrinsically safe version of the Hydramotion XL7 online process viscometer has carried regional certifications such as ATEX, Cenelec and TIIS for use in all Hazardous Areas up to and including Zone 0 (explosive atmosphere continuously present), equivalent to Class I Division 1 Group A. As the IECEx certification is global in scope it complements all of these while greatly reducing the need to seek local additional certification in specific territories.
The IECEx certification also extends coverage to the intrinsically safe versions of the company’s ReactaVisc reaction vessel viscometer, ViscoJet standalone viscometer and goVisc laboratory automation viscometer. This means that Hydramotion can offer an intrinsically safe viscometer for virtually any application with certification acceptable worldwide.
The XL7 online viscometer is a field-hardened, rugged instrument that can be used in any fluid under any process conditions. The ViscoJet is a standalone model providing RS485 serial data for direct integration into plant control systems, enabling the continuous product quality control in real time. The ReactaVisc and goVisc models are designed for continuous viscosity monitoring in laboratory- or pilot-scale installations.
All Hydramotion viscometers have a single all-welded 316 stainless steel sensor requiring no delicate or expensive accessories and with no moving parts, seals or bearings that can wear out or fail in service. Every instrument is factory-calibrated using certified viscosity standards traceable to NIST, so on-site calibration is not necessary. Routine maintenance is negligible.
The sensor can be used in any orientation and the online models can be mounted in any location. The digital readout unit can be mounted up to 1000 metres from the transducer. Outputs include three 4 20 mA analogue signals and a more comprehensive RS485 serial data link. Typical applications for the intrinsically safe range include the measurement of petroleum products, polymers, resins or solvent-based lacquers and varnishes.
