Rugged, reliable and versatile kinematic viscometer provides precision and economy in a single, compact and portable device

Mar 20 2024

The SimpleVIS® from Cannon Instrument Company is an economical and user-friendly single sample, portable viscometer for on-site testing, with near D445 precision, thanks to its exceptional temperature control (±0.05°C).

This rugged instrument was developed for measuring the kinematic viscosity of small samples of transparent Newtonian liquids in accordance to ASTM D 445 and ISO 3104. The available viscometer tubes cater to a viscosity range of 2 mm²/s (cSt) to 700 mm²/s (cSt) at two selected temperatures between 40 °C and 100 °C.

The SimpleVIS provides true kinematic viscosity measurement with no need to correlate dynamic viscosity data. This portable and highly reliable device boasts a fast cycle time of just 3 to 5 minutes from sample injection to test result; it weighs in at around 10 lbs/4.5 kilos and uses up less space than a standard coffee maker, making it considerably small than standard capillary viscometers.

Operation is simple; a graphical touch screen display provides step by step test instructions and, because the SimpleVis is factory calibrated, there are no switches, gauges or valves to adjust. Moreover the unit’s solid-state bath eliminates any need for a separate liquid bath.

End users are also delighted by the SimpleVIS’ exceptional low cost of ownership; it needs only 10 mL to 15 mL of solvent and 0.5 mL of sample per test and no sample vials are needed because the sample is injected directly into the instrument. In addition, it does not require a PC or any external utilities.

This versatile device is ideal for a wide variety of applications including industrial lubricant blending, contamination checks, remote, used-oil predictive maintenance, petroleum terminals, packaging/distribution of petroleum products and power plants.
