Fast Thermocouple Measuring Transmitter
May 01 2013
The new, 2-wire MTP300i-SIL2 thermocouple measuring transmitter has been developed to guarantee a very fast response time, particularly in functional safety-related applications, in accordance with IEC61508/61511 SIL2. This response time is max. 5 ms.
The redundant structure of the device makes it possible to connect either 1 or 2 thermocouples, for which 1 or 2 Pt100 cold-junction temperature compensation elements are provided. Both thermocouple input circuits are galvanically isolated and their mV signals are converted into one 4 to 20 mA signal in the power supply. A one out of two evaluation (1oo2) is therefore possible. The internal function blocks of the transmitter and the external measurement circuit are subject to a continuous self-test. Any errors that occur, such as a broken wire or even internal errors are displayed on a front LED and were indicated according to the NAMUR recommendation NE43 with an output signal of < 3.6 mA. The output reduction occurs permanently or only periodically. A recalibration can be carried out using the span and zero trimmers on the front of the device.
The transmitter, which is certified in accordance with ATEX, enables the connection of measuring circuits in up to zone 0 and can be installed in zone 1, even after being installed in an appropriate housing. Service work on the device is therefore also possible, without any restrictions, in Ex areas.
Additional versions of the MTP300i are also available, such as in a pressure-tight encapsulated housing with a display in accordance with ATEX Ex-d, or as an ATEX device without SIL.
Furthermore, Mütec Instruments (Germany) offers other SIL2 devices as well as hardware and software developments according to customer specifications, high quality requirements and certifications (ATEX, SIL, etc.).
