Rugged and Lightweight Noise Monitors Ensure Worker Safety at Shale Extraction Sites
Apr 14 2014
Casella (UK) is reporting ongoing demand for its lightweight yet robust dBadge noise dosimeter series. In fact, sales of the popular and well-proven instrument, which weighs just 71g, have continued to rise since its launch seven years ago.
Neal Hill, Casella’s Product Marketing Manager, comments: “Thousands of companies worldwide have purchased our dBadge as part of their commitment to assessing and monitoring noise in the workplace and compliance with Workplace Noise Regulations. The dBadge is as robust as it looks and customer feedback such as ‘rugged’ and ‘easy-to-use’ continue to make the dBadge a sound investment.”
The dBadge uses the latest digital technology and features a compact, rugged and lightweight design. It is completely cable-free and does not require any other equipment. It is simply operated by two keys on the side of the instrument and offers an automatic calibration function.
Casella’s dBadge has a ‘fuel gauge’ to show memory and battery status information, ensuring the exact remaining capacity can be viewed clearly, whilst a 28-hour battery life and large memory are sufficient to perform several consecutive shift measurements without charging or downloading.
An ultra-bright LED on the dBadge gives a visual indication of when exposure action levels have been exceeded by flashing at different rates and a variety of mounting options are available for all types of work environments, making the dBadge very easy to fit to the shoulder of the employee and comfortable to wear.
The dBadge automatically downloads to a PC using Casella Insight software, simply by pointing the instrument at the infra-red download cable provided.
Casella’s dBadge series is ideal for a number of applications, including noise measurement at shale gas extraction (fracking) sites where noise levels can be high. The dBadge series can also be used for general personal noise exposure measurement, assessment and monitoring of noise in the workplace, ensured compliance with Workplace Noise Regulations, aiding in the selection of effective hearing protection (dBadge Plus) and the conducting of measurements according to ISO9612:2009, plus the determination of occupational noise exposure.
