Iran set to produce more fuel following production unit inauguration
Jun 25 2013
New gasoline production units have been inaugurated by Iranian president Mahmoud Ahmadinejad. The president inaugurated the 14 new units at the Lavan oil refinery this morning, according to Fars news agency.
The new production units will help to increase the Iranian production of jet fuel, gasoline and gasoil. As well as increasing production of these products, the new units will also ensure that the fuels conform to Euro-4 standards. According to Mohammad-Ali Dadvar, managing director of the oil refinery, the output of high quality gasoline could be increased by around 2.8 million litres on current output volumes.
The European emission standard of fuel that is currently accepted around the world is Euro-4; this fuel produces very low amounts of sulphur when used to power a vehicle. In the period up until March 20th 2014, the facility aims to produce around 40 million litres of fuel that reaches this standard or the higher Euro-5 standard.
According to Mr Dadvar, the amount of fuel oil, liquefied gas, jet fuel and granule sulphur currently being produced at the facility will also increase by large amounts. Fuel oil could see an increase in production resulting in a total of two million litres per day, liquefied gas production could increase to 200 tonnes, jet fuel production could rise to one million litres and granule sulphur to 30 tonnes a day. The facility's crude oil refining capacity is currently 60,000 barrels every day.
Iran has the fourth largest oil reserves in the world, with oil levels proven to stand at around 137.6 billion barrels. The country also has around 29.61 trillion cubic meters of gas supply, making it the world's second largest gas reserve. The country is also now self-sufficient in its fuel production following the cessation of international trading to Tehran.
