Hospital signs emission reducing contract
Jan 07 2013
A major Ottawa hospital has signed a $750,000 (£461,453) contract to ensure that it remains as environmentally friendly as possible.
The hospital has worked with Thermal Energy International Inc, a leading provider of custom energy and emission reduction technologies, to have a heat recovery system installed.
This system is thought to reduce carbon emissions in the hospital by approximately 852 tonnes per year.
The company has also said that the new heat recovery installation could cut the hospital's steam requirements by 14 per cent.
"Our industrial and institutional energy efficiency solutions deliver not only cost and energy savings, but have the added bonus of maximizing carbon emission reductions without the typical markup for going green," said William Crossland, president and chief executive of Thermal Energy International in an announcement on December 18th, 2012.
"We are making great inroads in our key markets by focusing on our sales and distribution strategy and continuing to enhance our corporate sales capabilities in order to capitalize and expand on our recent success."
Although the cost to install has been huge, the hospital expects to make the money back in less than four years through energy savings.
No doubt bills will be less for the hospital, which has not yet been named.
It is hoped that the decision by this particular hospital to reduce emissions could be the catalyst for other organisations looking to slash the emission of harmful gases.
This could be a global phenomenon, as Thermal Energy International Inc. has offices throughout America, Canada and Europe.
According to its website, it is an "innovative cleantech company providing a variety of proprietary and proven energy efficiency, emission reduction, water efficiency, and bioenergy products and solutions to the industrial, commercial and institutional markets worldwide".
