Oil Analysis
New Oil Analysis Spectrometer
Apr 19 2010
QinetiQ North America recently announced that wholly owned subsidiary Spectro Inc. (USA) is introducing the Spectroil Q100 Oil Analysis Spectrometer, an analytical instrument that detects and quantifies metals in used (in-service) oils and hydraulic fluids that are indicative of an abnormal condition. Spectro Inc. customers will utilize the Spectroil Q100 to help predict mechanical failures in their early stages so corrective action can be taken. Oil analysis has become an extremely successful predictive maintenance tool applied by the military and commercial industry to greatly improve safety and reduce maintenance costs.
The Spectroil Q100 is designed to work equally well in the laboratory or in the field, under less than ideal conditions. Since the introduction of the original Spectroil over 25 years ago, Spectro Inc. has set the standard for spectrometers optimized for in-service oil analysis. All Spectroils are easy to use, reliable and the workhorses of commercial and military oil analysis laboratories that require the rapid analysis of wear metals, contaminants and additives in lubricants. The new Spectroil Q100 maintains this tradition and was designed from the ground up with the user, the application, and the in-service oil analysis laboratory in mind.
The Spectroil Q100 is the ideal spectrometer for the in-service oil analysis because technology has made it smaller and the addition of an innovative CCD optical system has made it more flexible for even the most exotic in-service oil analysis applications. The standard configuration is setup to analyze 22 wear metals, contaminants and additives in 30 seconds. Additional elements can be added at any time, even in the field if an application suddenly calls for unusual elements. The Spectroil Q100 also fulfills the requirements of ASTM D6595 Standard Method for Determination of Wear Metals and Contaminants in Used Lubricating Oils or Hydraulic Fluids by Rotating Disc Electrode Atomic Emission Spectrometry.
