New Gas Detection Device for Monitoring Toxic Gases
Jan 11 2008
Honeywell (UK) have announced the launch of the Series 3000 XPIS, an internationally certified gas detector that offers a number of robust solutions for the detection of toxic gases in potentially explosive atmospheres.
Series 3000 XPIS is suited to a wide range of applications and can detect toxic gases or Oxygen in a 2-wire 4-20mA format. This wiring configuration makes the Series 3000 XPIS ideal for retrofitting other 2-wire devices including the Sieger Series 2000 range of 2-wire toxic gas detectors. A combination of hazardous area approvals ensures that Series 3000 XPIS can be wired alongside other flameproof devices and still permit the ‘hot swap’ of a sensor, without the need to down-power the device or use a hot work permit. This type of certification approval also removes the need to segregate field wiring as required when IS (Intrinsic Safety) and Non IS field instruments are used in the same area, making the device both cost-effective and versatile. Series 3000 XPIS also utilises a magnetically activated user interface, permitting configuration and calibration without opening the enclosure or having to obtain a hot work permit.
Series 3000 XPIS offers excellent reliability and ease of use with smart gas sensors which configure automatically when plugged into the transmitter. Onboard diagnostics provide a wealth of useful information during operation and fault finding routines. In addition, the patented ‘Reflex’ sensors test algorithms to ensure sensing elements are fitted and operational at all times. For extra flexibility, the remote sensor can be mounted up to 15m (50 feet) away from the transmitter making the Series 3000 XPIS the ideal choice for applications where the point of detection is located in a hard-toreach area, e.g. in high or low level concealed areas or inside a room with the transmitter located outside.
The gas sensors available for the Series 3000 XPIS include Oxygen, Hydrogen Sulphide, Carbon Monoxide, Ammonia and Sulphur Dioxide. Further releases will include Chlorine, Chlorine Dioxide, Nitrogen Monoxide, Nitrogen Dioxide, Hydrogen, Hydrogen Chloride, Hydrogen Cyanide, Hydrogen Fluoride, Ozone and Phosphine. Series 3000 XPIS is ATEX, IECEx, UL and CSA (cUL) certified.
