Oil industry giant Shell UK advises on fuel consumption
Jun 18 2010
Media manager David Wood makes some relatively simple recommendations on how to raise the efficiency of a vehicle while reducing levels of unnecessary drag.
He suggests lowering top speeds by a few miles an hour and changing up a gear slightly sooner to remove fuel wastage at the top end of the rev counter.
Travelling as light as possible and removing the roof rack when not in use also makes sure no fuel is wasted on transporting unnecessary weight.
Mr Wood also suggests keeping the windows closed where possible, reducing the drag of the vehicle and maximising fuel efficiency.
"People don't realise how much fuel they use," he says. "They are being busy driving about on their hectic days."
However, when their attention is drawn to their fuel consumption, he adds that motorists can find substantial savings to be made.
