Fully Automatic Ball-On-Cylinder Lubricity Evaluator (ABS-BOCLE) now Included in ASTM D5001-8 Standard for Jet Fuel Testing
Aug 26 2009
PCS Instruments (UK) are pleased to announce that their fully automated ABS-BOCLE is now included in the ASTM method D5001-8 "Measurement of Lubricity of Aviation Turbine Fuels by the Ball - on - Cylinder Lubricity Evaluator".
The BOCLE was developed to test the lubricity of Aviation Turbine Fuel. The PCS ABS-BOCLE utilises a flooded, ball on cylinder contact geometry. A ground steel cylinder is mounted with its axis horizontal such that the lower part dips in a bath containing the fuel under test. The cylinder rotates, carrying fuel up to the contact between the cylinder and a vertically loaded ball. After the test duration of 30 minutes a flat spot has been worn on the ball. The size of the wear scar is an indicator of the lubricating performance of the fuel. Once the operator has fitted the disc and ball and filled the bath the test is carried out automatically. The PCS ABS instrument can be connected to a PC to enable visual representation of the results and allow for a wear scar camera package to measure the wear scar.
With a conversion pack, the ABS can also perform the ASTM scuffing load test for diesel fuel lubricity (ASTM D6078).
PCS Instruments, based in London, UK, is the world leader in fuel lubricity test equipment manufacturing both the High Frequency Reciprocating Rig (HFRR) and the Fully Automated Ball-on-cylinder System (ABS).
