Immersible Thermal Mass Flow Meter with high-temperature design
Jun 22 2009
Sierra’s (USA) industry-leading Steel-Trak™ Model 640S Immersible Thermal Mass Flow Meter is now available in a high-temperature design capable of trouble-free operation in process temperatures up to 750°F (400°C).
Popular in heavy industry, the Steel-Trak™ Model 640S is designed for the most demanding industrial flow measurement applications. Constructed of heavy-duty 316 stainless steel wetted materials, the high-temperature version of the Model 640S includes remote-mounted electronics and mineral-insulated cabling resistant to very high temperatures.
The meter is already in use in such critical applications as electrical power generation, stack gas measurement, petrochemical refining and steel-making. One such application is in coal-fired power plants, where combustion air is pre-heated to temperatures approaching 500°F (260°C) prior to it being mixed with the pulverized coal and burned in the boiler to produce steam for electricity.
It is critical that the mass flow rate of preheated air be measured very accurately in order to obtain efficient combustion. The high-temperature Model 640S meets this challenge with high accuracy, easy installation, and low maintenance in a rugged, explosion-proof package.
Featuring direct gas mass flow measurement, each Model 640S utilizes Sierra’s patented Dry-Sense™ Technology for drift-free performance…year after year. The meter also features Sierra’s Smart Interface™ Package for field programming and meter validation and diagnostics.
All of Sierra’s flow meters are calibrated to exacting customer specifications at Sierra’s calibration laboratories and are directly traceable to NIST and compliant to ANSI/NCSL Z540 and MIL-STD-45662A and certified to ISO 9001 standards.
The Steel-Mass™ Model 640S is hazardous area approved by CSA and CRN (Canada), FM (USA), ATEX, CE and PED (EU), IEC Ex (Australia), GOST R (Russian Federation) and Chinese Pattern Approval (China). Meter accuracy is +/ 1% of reading plus +/-0.5% of full scale with repeatability of +/- 0.2% of full scale.
The ¾” diameter sensor probe inserts easily into ducts and pipes up to 72-inches in size and is offered with a wide range of process connections (including hot tap). For very large ducts, multipoint flow averaging arrays are available, complete with a self-contained human-machine interface (HMI) panel that allows for touch-screen field programming and operation of the entire system.
Probes may easily be removed for cleaning or the optional built-in purge cleaning system (using external high pressure air) may be used.
