Low cost versatile fuels analysis
Jun 24 2009
Analyzing trace contaminants and additives in a wide range of light and heavy fuels is considerably less expensive without sacrificing precision with the Thermo Scientific ARL OPTIM’X WDXRF, featuring the unique SmartGonio™. Providing high reliability and low cost of ownership, the ARL OPTIM’X complies completely with ASTM D 2622, D 4927 and other international standards. WDXRF is the petroleum industry’s preferred technique for a broad range of fuel and lubricant elemental analysis, offering:
- Complete compliance with ASTM D 2622, D 4927 and others
- Excellent repeatability
- High degree of flexibility in terms of measurement of analytical lines, background positions and internal references
- High dynamic range (sub-ppm to 100%)
The Thermo Scientific ARL OPTIM’X, a wavelength dispersive XRF (WDXRF) spectrometer with innovative SmartGonio™, is configured to cover all elements from Fluorine to Uranium.
The ARL OPTIM’X is ideally suited for refineries, central research labs or petroleum industry service labs. It offers a cost effective analytical solution for dedicated applications, such as:
- Sulfur analysis in petroleum products (gasoline, diesel, fuel oils, other light and heavy distillates) according to ISO and ASTM standard methods
- Measurement of ultra-low Sulfur content, with performance easily exceeding even today’s most stringent regulations, less than 10 ppm
- Quantifying additive elements (Ca, Zn, P, Mg, Mo, etc.) from sub-ppm to % levels in a wide range of lubricant products
For easiest start-up and use, the ARL OPTIM’X with SmartGonio comes equipped with PetroilQuant, a pre-calibration program that facilitates quantitative analysis for all common elements in petroleum. In addition, a minimum of auxiliary equipment including no external chiller necessary makes the ARL OPTIM’X the most cost effective solution for all laboratories dealing with petroleum products.
