New Portable Fuel Property Analyser (PFPA)
Feb 18 2016
Real-Time Analyzers, Inc. (USA) has developed a Portable Fuel Property Analyzer (PFPA) specifically designed for operation in demanding environments, such as refinery, pipeline, port, tarmac, and military operations.
In less than 10 seconds it can determine numerous performance properties for Diesel, Jet Fuel, and Gasoline samples. These properties include: Cetane Index, Cloud Point, Density, Distillation (IBP, 10, 50, 90 & FBP), Flash Point, Freeze Point, Pour Point, Viscosity, Octane, Reid Vapor Pressure, BTEX, and Oxygenates.
Such analysis traditionally requires a fully equipped laboratory, highly trained technicians, and at least 5 hours. This device is not intended to replace standard ASTM methods but rather to screen fuels on-site.
Operation of the PFPA simply requires filling a 2 mL glass vial with fuel, inserting the vial into the sample holder, selecting the fuel type, and pressing “Measure”. In less than 10 seconds the property data is displayed, and an integrated thermal printer produces a hardcopy of the results.
