Superior Sulfur Analysis: Selective and Sensitive
Sep 19 2018
OI Analytical’s S-PRO 3200 Gas Chromatography System is a complete solution for the analysis of speciated volatile sulfur compounds in gas phase matrices, making it an ideal analysis tool for the petroleum industry, measuring sulfur in natural gas and liquefied petroleum gas (LPG); COS in ethylene and propylene feedstock; thiophene in benzene, semiconductor and industrial gas purity; and quality control in gas production and blending operations.
The S-PRO utilises OI Analytical’s new, second-generation 5383 Pulsed Flame Photometric Detector (PFPD) to selectively measure known and unknown sulfur compounds from low ppb to ppm levels. Total sulfur content is reportable as a sum of the individual peaks. The unique capability to obtain simultaneous sulfur and hydrocarbon chromatograms from a single PFPD sets the S-PRO apart from other sulfur detection technologies.
The proven technology of the 5383 PFPD offers superior sensitivity and increased selectivity compared to conventional Flame Photometric Detectors (FPDs). Reliable and cost-effective, the 5383 PFPD also uses significantly less gas than FPDs or SCDs (sulfur chemiluminescence detection). With better long-term stability and intuitive, easy-to-use software, the 5383 PFPD works in tandem with the Agilent GC platform upon which the S-PRO is based to offer an accurate, dependable solution for the analysis of sulfur compounds.
The S-PRO 3200 has a number of efficient design features to enhance analytical and performance capabilities. A permeation oven, accommodating up to five permeation devices, is integrated into the instrument to generate gas-phase calibration and quality assurance/control checks. Our specially designed Volatiles Interface allows for the introduction of low-concentration gas samples at varying split ratios from gas-sampling valves to achieve a wide dynamic range. The S-PRO’s injection system is automated, making the sample introduction, system calibration, and quality control checks a seamless process. A 4-port sample selection valve makes it easy to select a sample from a gas stream, or deliver calibration and check standards from the permeation oven.
A low-maintenance instrument, the S-PRO 3200’s sample pathway is constructed of Sulfinert® treated stainless steel components to prevent absorption of sulfur compounds, making it a trusted instrument for accurate and reliable results.
