Meet PEFTEC’s Scientific Committee Head Dr. Anupam Giri

To watch a short video-interview with Dr. Giri on his vision for PEFTEC 2022, just follow the link.

Since its inception, PEFTEC has always been led by experts, priding itself on scientific rigour. With Dr. Anupam Giri serving as Chairman of the Scientific Committee, PEFTEC 2022 will be no exception.

In 2010, Dr. Giri received his PhD from Tokyo University of Marine Science and Technology for a thesis on the characterization of bio-active components, which formed the basis for subsequent post-doctoral research into bio-active components, as well the combination of chromatographic techniques with mass spectrometry, and heavy petroleum analysis. As of 2017, Dr. Giri joined SABIC, and currently serves as the Lead Scientist within the Analytical Technology team. Whilst the team focusses primarily on the development of technologies for CHROM-MS, Dr. Giri has continued to gain experience in chromatography, exploring various hyphenated techniques like GC×GC-HRTOF-MS, GC-QTOF and GC-MS-O. Over his career so far, Dr. Giri has been either the author or the co-author of over 30 peer-reviewed articles in scientific journals.

Dr. Giri admits to being increasingly excited about PEFTEC 2022 as the year progresses – most recently, he’s been buoyed by the Dutch Ministry of Health’s decision to end all restrictions on travel. “We were very worried in the very beginning,” confesses Dr. Giri. “But now, we can welcome many colleagues from inside and outside of Europe.” Not only does this make it easier for visitors to attend PEFTEC 2022, but it also ensures that more of the pioneering speakers can deliver in-person presentations. “Initially, we thought it would be a hybrid programme, with some speakers presenting directly and others virtually,” says Dr. Giri. “But we’ve finally got a programme where most of the speakers – if not all – are coming to Rotterdam.”

This programme of talks adheres to Dr. Giri’s vision for PEFTEC 2022 as a forum for the discussion of the most important issues facing the petrochemical industry. For instance, there are sessions dedicated to the consideration of comprehensive gas chromatography – its application in the petrochemical industry, the latest technological advancements and in-depth investigation of various hyphenated techniques. Similarly, PEFTEC 2022 will host a range of lectures on the analytics behind sustainability, with a particular focus on the characterisation of recycled plastics. Indeed, the conference will conclude with a long-form panel discussion on the responsibilities of users, recyclers, industry and legal authorities in the promotion of plastic recycling.

As Dr. Giri indicates, this year’s conference will offer engineers and plant managers plenty of tips on improving their process analytics, including updates on the cutting-edge of technological advancements. Further, petrochemical specialists will want to attend sessions on sensor-analytical technology and complex hyphenated techniques.

Although this year’s PEFTEC will be no exception when it comes to scientific excellence, PEFTEC 2022 will be the first PEFTEC to be free. That’s right: for the first time ever, this year’s PEFTEC will be completely free to attend.

So, register now – and gain simultaneous access to IMM 2022, an international conference on industrial methane monitoring which is running alongside PEFTEC 2022.
