New 10.0 eV Lamp for Photoionisation Sensor Line
Feb 22 2012
Baseline-MOCON (USA) a subsidiary of MOCON (NASDAQ: MOCO), is announcing a new 10.0 eV lamp energy level for its piD-TECH® plus photoionisation sensor line. The new lamp will now give users increased specificity when determining the presence of volatile organic compounds (VOC) such as benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene and xylene (BTEX).
For first time, this energy level has been incorporated into a small photoionisation sensor. This means that original equipment manufacturers of lightweight, portable testing units which accept a 4P cell dimensional profile can now offer their users new performance capability.
The new lamp provides improved BTEX compound analysis over previously available energies. It offers increased specificity over the 10.6 eV and increased sensitivity over the 9.6 eV options.
The linear dynamic ranges for the Baseline-MOCON’s piD-TECH® plus sensors which incorporate the new 10.0 eV lamp are (ppb=parts per billion; ppm=parts per million):
Sensor type Normal range MDQ
Isobutylene Isobutylene
Black Label 10.0 6,000 ppm 150 ppb
Bronze 10.0 600 ppm 50 ppb
Silver 10.0 60 ppm 15 ppb
The new generation sensors are ideal for instrumentation manufacturers who want to add state-of-the art, low-level VOC detection to their portable or stationary monitors. The piD-TECH® plus line sets a new standard by being able to measure concentrations lower than previously possible with other comparably-sized sensors.
By offering three lamp energy levels, the piD-TECH® plus now offers users a choice of selectivity and discrimination. Improvements in the detector cell production process also results in more robust cell performance characteristics. When these capabilities are coupled with broad dynamic range and insensitivity to humidity, the piD-TECH® plus becomes the most versatile PID sensor available.
Baseline-MOCON has engineered extremely low electrical entity parameters (voltage, current, capacitance, etc.) into the piD-TECH® plus series which enable operation in hazardous environments. As a result, the entire line has passed Underwriter’s Laboratories “certified component” requirements. This reduces the steps manufacturers have to take to obtain an “intrinsically-safe” certification rating for instruments using piD-TECH® plus sensors. Further, Baseline-MOCON is ISO 9001:2000 certified.
