New XRF Analysers for Environmental Hazards Testing

Thermo Fisher Scientific Inc (USA) is pleased to announce the launch of the Niton® XL2 GOLDD™ Series handheld x-ray fluorescence (XRF) analyser as the newest member of its family of Thermo Scientific Niton analysers The company also introduced the enhanced Niton XL3t GOLDD+ Series, which offers the ultimate performance and features in the product line. The instruments of choice in elemental analysis solutions for environmental hazards testing, Thermo Scientific Niton analysers provide superior accuracy in measuring environmental contaminants.

Thermo Scientific geometrically optimised large area drift detector (GOLDD) technology delivers faster measurement times and lower detection limits – as much as 10-times faster than conventional Si-PIN detectors and up to three-times more precise than conventional smaller silicon drift detectors (SDD). This innovative technology allows the easy detection and measurement of low levels of RCRA metals, priority pollutants and the U.S. EPA target analytes.

“With the launch of the Niton XL2 GOLDD and enhanced Niton XL3t GOLDD+, we now offer a range of products that gives users the ability to test thousands of samples on-site whether the need is for lead paint screening and sediment analysis or the real-time delineation of contamination site boundaries,” said Bob Wopperer, director of marketing and business development for Thermo Scientific Niton Analyzers. Wopperer continued, “Governmental regulations, increased public awareness, and legal action have all driven the requirements for the identification and remediation of environmental hazards in residential, commercial and industrial settings. Using our nondestructive XRF analysers, users can identify elemental concentrations from the most subtle anomalies at unprecedented low levels to high levels of contamination, on-site, in real time.”

Whether users choose the performance-leading Niton XL2 GOLDD or the Niton XL3t GOLDD+, the ultimate choice in features plus performance, they will benefit from obtaining instant elemental analysis results without the need of relying solely on time-consuming and costly off-site testing labs.

Niton XL2 GOLDD analysers have a 45kV, 100 μA x-ray tube and are lightweight yet ruggedly built to withstand severe environments. Ergonomically designed and featuring daylight readable icons, the Niton XL2 GOLDD incorporates customisable menus for ease of use, multilanguage options and a standard analytical range of more than 30 elements from magnesium to uranium. It is the ideal instrument to measure sulphur content on copper pipes as an indicator of corrosive drywall while also providing rapid quantification of strontium (Sr) in the drywall to help identify its source.

Niton XL3t GOLDD+™ analysers with their 50kV, 200 μA x-ray tubes and tilting, color, touch-screen display deliver close to bench-top quality analysis on many soil matrices and provide the highest sensitivity and measurement accuracy along with the shortest possible testing times.

Handheld, award-winning Niton XL2 Series and Niton XL3 Series XRF analysers are purpose-built for taking measurements anywhere, anytime, with accurate results available in seconds, saving significant expense in comparison to traditional laboratory testing. These easyto-use, nondestructive instruments provide integrated storage of all test results, which are completely tamperproof. Multiple communication options are incorporated, including Bluetooth* wireless and USB communications.

They also come standard with Thermo Scientific Niton Data Transfer (NDT©) software, a suite of data management utilities that allows users to set operator permissions, print certificates of analysis to document results or operate the analyzer remotely from a PC. The NDT file format preserves and protects the data from each sample analysis, ensuring that this data is not unintentionally or intentionally compromised.
