New Immersion Probe Measures Oil in Water
May 24 2010
It only takes a trace of oil to impair water quality. The new FP 360 sc immersion probe from Hach Lange (Germany) monitors surface, process and industrial water reliably, continuously and uncomplicatedly, detecting even the slightest contamination by mineral oil.
FP 360 sc uses a highly sensitive ultraviolet fluorescence method. When polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAH) are exposed to ultraviolet radiation, they emit fluorescent light at an intensity which is directly related to their concentration. Measuring the intensity of this fluorescence is a much more sensitive method of determining PAH than measuring absorbance or scattered light. As polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons are present in most mineral oils, their concentration can be used to calculate the mineral oil content of water.
The FP 360 sc immersion fluorometer is suspended directly in the measurement medium with the help of a chain attachment. No time-consuming installation is needed. With the help of an optional flow cell, the probe can also be installed for bypass applications. The standard model is in stainless steel, and a titanium housing enables the probe to be used in aggressive media.
The FP 360 sc probe is used in combination with the proven SC controller. Depending on the model, up to eight different sensors can be connected to one controller. Extensive communication variants enable integration into existing BUS systems and into a network via Ethernet or in wireless form using GPRS for site-independent installation.-
