New technology to test lower pressure gas wells
Jan 13 2012
A series of research and development initiatives are to be pursued by flow measurement specialists McCrometer, who have installed a new wet gas test stand in order to tap lower pressure natural gas wells.
The rise in demand for natural gas around the world means producers are now facing the task of lower pressure natural gas wells to increase supplies.
Metering gas flows with some wetness is difficult for conventional multiphase measurement systems to achieve, which has created a requirement for new technology systems.
McCrometer has installed the new wet gas test stand as a simulation tool, which will allow for a further understanding of these conditions. The company states this should eliminate the need to use separators, a trace method or install very large and expensive wet gas meters in the future.
The built-in flow conditioning technology will offer superior performance in wet gas applications, as well as being low maintenance with a life expectancy of over 25 years.
It also reduces the typical straight pipe run by 70 per cent or more, requiring only 0-3 straight pipe diameters upstream and 0-1 downstream.
