The Gas Station as a Work Space: Mobile Determination of the Water Content in Natural Gas Using the Karl Fischer Titrator Aqua 40.00
Apr 18 2012
The determination of the moisture content of natural gas used as fuel for vehicles is gaining more and more importance. The water determination in natural gas is performed according to the Karl Fischer method, e.g. according to DIN EN ISO 10101-3 (1998), in which the coulometric measuring method is described. The Karl Fischer titrator Aqua 40.00 is especially suited for mobile applications because of its modular and robust design. Located in a tool case, the device is equipped with a gas dosing module and will be ready for use in a few minutes. That way, fast measurements can be performed directly at the gas station. The measurement principle is as easy as efficient: The gas dosing module is connected directly to the gas removal hose and the natural gas is guided into the measuring cell. The enrichment and the titration start after a defined gas volume has gone through. Besides the other physical units, the volume is the basis for the calculation of the results. The result can be displayed immediately after the end of the titration – in mg/m³ i.N. or mg/kg H2O, depending on the requirement.
This mobile measuring technique has also proven itself over the last few years for the determination of the moisture content at underground storages or directly at the production site of natural gas.
