Implementation of Laboratory Platform
Jul 19 2012
LabWare Brazil, a company from the LabWare group (USA), global specialist in the LIMS market with presence in over 70 countries announced today that its platform for laboratory management and control, through its leading products LabWare LIMS and ELN, was selected by Braskem, producer of thermoplastic resins in the Americas and biopolymers, as the corporate solution for its laboratory information management system.
Braskem currently has 35 plants located throughout Brazil, United States and Germany. With the opening of its factory for polyethylene derived from ethanol from sugar cane, with annual capacity of 200,000 tonnes, Braskem became the largest producer of biopolymers in the world, and, since then, has made investments to improve the efficiency of their operations. With an installed capacity exceeding 16 million tons of thermoplastic resins and other chemicals per year, Braskem has customers in over 60 countries. The project for deployment of the laboratory management and control system from LabWare in Braskem, called “TotalLab”, will be performed in several phases, from which the first one was performed with complete success in the basic petrochemical unit of Braskem in Bahia (UNIB Bahia). Process Industry Solution, LabWare LIMS pre-configured process solution template, was used as the starting point. It incorporates the best practices of the process industries and associated to LabWare expertise in this segment, allowed a quick and effective system implementation.
The project plan foresees the roll-out for the other units of basic petrochemicals this year and the subsequent deployment in the polymer units and Center for Technology and Innovation. The project also involves interface with other corporate systems such as ERPs and PIMS, and will involve the replacement of legacy systems from different LIMS.
The Process Industry Solution used in the initial phase of this project at Braskem is a pre configured system totally based on the standard Labware LIMS, incorporating the best practices for this market. This solution allows an accelerated implementation of Labware LIMS in organisations that have the process as a feature of production. The solution maintains all the flexibility and capability of the basic product and can be configured to meet new requirements that may occur in the future without any injury or difficulty.
